CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. -- As school districts around Central Virginia entered into the start of the official summer break, several announced changes to meal distribution sites.
Those changes were announced in Chesterfield, Hanover, and Henrico School Districts, impacts when and where food can be picked up.
For Chesterfield students, the district announced an expanded summer feeding program to begin on June 15. Officials said during the pandemic, Chesterfield Schools surpassed 1 million meals to students -- and they hope to double that number.
The summer feeding program is set to run through August 31 and will include 17 Chesterfield school sites, serving breakfast, lunch, a snack, and dinner. It will also include 28 community locations offering the same thing, as well as three additional school sites offering just breakfast and lunch. Those meals are set to be handed out on Mondays and Thursdays.
Officials said three days' worth of meals would be provided on Mondays and four days' worth of meals would be provided on Thursdays. Any child between the ages of two and 18 are eligible to receive meals.
