RICHMOND, Va. -- A police pursuit in Richmond ended in a Virginia State Trooper colliding with a vehicle in Scott's Addition on Tuesday evening.
Around 4:30 p.m., a Virginia State Police trooper driving north on I-95 at the 76 mile marker saw an Audi driving erratically and coming very close to striking several vehicles.
The trooper initiated a traffic stop with his emergency equipment activated, but the Audi refused to stop and a pursuit was initiated.
The suspect continued north on I-95 driving at high speeds and passing other vehicles on the shoulder until it took Exit 79 to head south on I-195.
The Audi took the Hamilton/Broad Street exit and the driver, a 30-year-old North Carolina man, abandoned his car in the vicinity of Norfolk Street at Arthur Ashe Boulevard and fled the scene on foot.
After a short foot pursuit, state police took the suspect driver into custody without further incident and charges are pending against him.
During the course of the pursuit, a state police patrol vehicle collided with a Dodge pickup truck at the intersection of West Marshall Street and Altamout Avenue.
The trooper and the driver of the Dodge pickup were checked at the scene by EMS personnel. No other injuries or damage was sustained as a result of the crash.
