KING WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. – A Virginia school district is canceling classes for the rest of the week due to a high number of confirmed and suspected flu cases.

King William County Public Schools announced all schools would be closed Thursday, Feb. 6 and Friday, Feb. 7.

“School staff will be thoroughly cleaning and disinfecting all surfaces throughout all of our buildings and buses over the next two days,” school officials said in a statement.

Officials say they hope the days off will give any infected persons the chance to get better so that school facilities aren’t re-contaminated.

“These actions are being taken out of an abundance of caution and to safeguard the health and well-being of all of our students and staff,” the statement continued.
