PETERSBURG, Va. -- Someone stole a police rifle from the trunk of a Petersburg Police car, according to Petersburg Police Capt. Emanuel Chambliss.
The patrol car was parked outside an off-duty officer's home in the East Walnut Hill section of Petersburg.
The theft occurred Thursday between 10:15 p.m. and 11:35 p.m., according to police.
