CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. -- The YMCA of Greater Richmond is partnering with local food banks to help families in need.
YMCA branches in the Richmond-area participated in the “Fill the Bus” challenge Wednesday. More than 500 vehicles participated and donated food and toiletries drive-thru style.
In total, 1,801 bags of food and 167 bags of toiletries were collected at 15 YMCA branches.
The donations will go to the Chesterfield Food Bank, Colonial Heights Food Bank, Feedmore, the Western Hanover Emergency Action Team, and other local non-profits.
Over 2,400 pounds of food were donated to the Chesterfield Food Bank from the four branches located in Chesterfield County.
“It has been incredible to see neighbors helping neighbors throughout this endeavor. People have been sharing love and care for one another in a phenomenal way that gives witness to the strength of our community!” said Reverend F. Elizabeth Givens, Pastor of Welborne United Methodist Church, whose food pantry also received donations.
