Body found near abandoned Richmond home, Crime Insider sources told Jon Burkett

RICHMOND, Va. -- Police are investigating after a man's body was found near an abandoned home in South Richmond, Crime Insider sources told Jon Burkett.

The investigation was focused on the area of Stockton Street and Richmond Highway.

Officers were called to the 200 block of Richmond Highway for the report of a person down just after 7:10 a.m., according to James Mercante with Richmond Police.

When police arrived they found a man "down and unresponsive in a front yard of a structure."

The man, who police said suffered a gunshot wound, was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death," Mercante said.
