PETERSBURG, Va. -- A man was arrested Friday after allegedly killing one man and injuring another while they were waiting at a red light in Petersburg on Thanksgiving Eve 2019.

Twenty-year-old Sincere Quayles was arrested Friday without incident "following an extensive investigation," according to officials with Petersburg Police.

Officers said Quayles opened fire on 27-year-old William "Joey" Spillane and 70-year-old Tom McRae while they were sitting at a red light at the intersection of University Boulevard and High Street Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2019.

Spillane died at the scene.

McRae suffered a gunshot wound to the leg and was taken to an area hospital and treated.

Officers said Quayles was charged with first-degree murder.

The Petersburg man is being held without bond, according to police.

"The Petersburg Bureau of Police would like to thank our community partners and the United States Marshals Fugitive Task Force for aiding and assisting with the apprehension of Quayles," officials said in a news release Saturday.
