RICHMOND, Va. -- Herbert Dabney, known to many as “Debo Dabney,” died Wednesday night at age 68.
Dabney was a beloved Richmond jazz pianist who had been in the music business for 50 years performing all over Virginia in both sacred and secular music.
"Dabney would become one with the music when he performed," BJ Brown, Executive Director of the Richmond Jazz Society, said. "It's a terrible loss for the community."
Dabney performed at the VMFA Jazz Café, the 2nd Street Festival , the St Elizabeth Jazz Festival, and countless other events. He also served as the music director for the Richmond Jazz Society..
