Powhatan man charged with child sex crimes

POWHATAN, Va. -- A Powhatan man has been arrested and charged with child sex crimes after deputies say he tried to have sex with a 14-year-old child.

Robert Wensley Brizendine, 54, was arrested Wednesday, October. 28 after traveling to attempt to have sex with who he thought was a 14-year-old child, according to the Powhatan Sheriff Office.

"Brizendine traveled from his home in Powhatan to another location in Powhatan expecting to meet a 14-year-old child, but was instead met by Powhatan Sheriff Office deputies," a police spokesperson said.

Brizendine has been charged with two counts of soliciting a child under the age of 15 for sexual purposes and four counts of using a communication system to expose his genitals to a child under the age of 15.

He is currently being held in Piedmont Regional Jail with no bond.
