SHORT PUMP, Va. -- A driver was killed on Interstate 64 west in Short Pump Wednesday morning.

"Police are on scene investigating a single vehicle into the woods," a Henrico Police spokesperson advised after the morning incident. "The driver was transported to an area hospital where they succumbed to their injuries."

Police later identified the driver as 53-year-old Christopher Mburu of Henrico County.

The crash was reported as Henrico Police responded to the man’s home near Parham and Three Chopt roads.

A 911 call made from the home alerted police to a domestic dispute, according to Crime Insider sources.

Police found a woman with multiple stab wounds when they arrived to the house.

The woman was taken to the hospital where she was last listed in stable condition, Crime Insider sources told Burkett.

Those sources said the stabbing occurred after the woman threatened to file for divorce following a previous assault.

The incident closed the exit ramp from I-64 west to I-295 south (Exit 177) for several hours. The ramp has since reopened.

This is a developing story.
