RICHMOND, Va. -- Richmond Police Major Crimes detectives bounced from two unrelated shooting scenes Tuesday night
A man was hit with a stray bullet as he sat inside his apartment along the 1300 block of Jennie Scher Road.
Detectives said his injuries were considered non-life-threatening and the victim was not the intended target, Crime Insider indicated.
"It could've been anybody's porch," said a neighbor who didn’t want his name used.
Hours earlier and across the river off Silver Avenue, Crime Insider sources said a man stumbled onto a resident's porch asking for help. Those same sources said the victim was shot multiple times in the chest and his injuries were life-threatening.
While police were on Silver Avenue, they learned the actual shooting happened a few blocks north at East 21st and Gordon St.
"Other than the shots honestly, it's a nice block," neighbor Ashley Green said. "We were excited about being over here honestly, even when we moved here the neighbors greeted us, very welcoming, truly a place where you could ask for a cup of sugar, you know. I mean two months here and my battery died. My neighbor gave me a jump."
But Green said violence has prompted her to move. In addition to Tuesday's shooting, there was a drive-by murder on the playground across the street earlier this month.
"Even if I'm in view, I can put my eyes on the playground,” Green said. “But I can't get there fast enough if a shooting takes place. You see what I'm saying, that reaction wouldn't have enough time."
If you know who's responsible for the shootings tonight, police want to hear from you.
