RICHMOND, Va. -- Since we can no longer go see Richmond saxophonist James ‘Plunky’ Branch in concert, the musician is bringing the concert to us.
Plunky is performing a 10-minute set every night at 7 p.m. outside his Rosewood Avenue home in Richmond’s Byrd Park neighborhood.
His short, nightly set features selections that range from nursery rhymes to classical jazz.
Plunky said the response has been wonderful and added some neighbors come out with pots and pans to jam along with him.
“My favorite fan is a 15-month-old kid who comes down the block and when I come out, and we start clapping,” Plunky said. “He comes down the block to stand in front.”
Plunky said he has dedicated his performances to first responders and others who take care of the community.
