POWHATAN COUNTY, Va. -- State police are investigating after a person was killed along Route 60 in Powhatan County Wednesday night.

Troopers were called to the wreck in the 1400 block of Anderson Highway just before 8:30 p.m.

Officials said the preliminary investigation indicates a person in a vehicle that had ran off the road was killed when they got out of their car and were then hit by another vehicle.

"The investigation is in the initial phases," officials with state police wrote in an email around 9:40 p.m. "There is no additional information available at this time."

The crash closed all westbound lanes of Route 60 near Paige Road around 8:45 p.m.

"Please use alternate routes and expect delays," VDOT officials said.

All lanes had reopened by around 11:50 p.m.
