RICHMOND, Va. -- A newly married Richmond couple did something special for the groom’s grandmother who could not attend their nuptials because of the pandemic.
Harvey Sydnor married his bride, Virginia, in October. But because his grandmother lives in an assisted care facility, she was not able to attend the wedding.
One week later the newlyweds held a mock wedding at the Windsor Senior Center on Grove Avenue, so Harvey’s grandmother could watch a recreation of the ceremony through the window.
His grandmother was moved to tears by what she saw.
"Oh my mercy," she can be heard saying in the video. "Look at... beautiful, darling. Oh, how wonderful..."
Harvey said he was sharing the video with hopes of encouraging others not to put their lives on hold because of COVID. Instead, Harvey said they should work to find creative ways to "work around it."
