RICHMOND, Va. -- A man carrying a flag that expressed his desire to protect Confederate statues was removed from the base of the Stonewall Jackson statue after he was surrounded by people watching the removal of the statue.
The man made his way to the base of the Monument Avenue statue as crews above worked to remove the statue of the Confederate general from its pedestal.
As onlookers crowded around the man with the flag, it appeared Richmond Sheriff's deputies were able to pull the man out of the crowd and into a cruiser. The cruiser then drove off.
It did not appear the man was hurt during the incident.
This is a developing story.
