SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. -- A man is in critical condition after being shot by a police officer during a prostitution sting operation in Spotsylvania.
According to "The Freelance Star," it happened Thursday night at a hotel on Jefferson Davis Highway.
Deputies say the shooting victim walked into a hotel room as had been arranged when officers walked in and ordered the man to show his hands.
Instead, they say he reached for a gun in his waistband, causing a deputy to open fire.
The shooting victim is in critical condition, and the deputy, a 19-year veteran of the department, has been placed on administrative leave.
