Man arrested in connection to Hopewell shootings

HOPEWELL, Va. -- A Hopewell man has been arrested in connection to multiple shootings in the city Wednesday afternoon and evening.

Raphael A Gholson, 30, was arrested Friday afternoon by the U.S. Marshal’s Regional Fugitive Task on a felony warrant for possession of firearm by a convicted felon.

The arrest is in connection to Wednesday’s shootings in the 2300 block of Wakefield Street and 1600 block of Huntington Court. At least three victims suffered non-life threatening injuries, according to police.

“The police department and our citizens have to work together to end the senseless violence in our city, we are in this together.” said Chief Kamran Afzal. "The Hopewell Police Department continues to investigate the incidents and ask the for the community’s assistance by providing any information they may know."

The Hopewell Police Department is requesting that any person(s) who may have witnessed any activity in the shooting locations, been in the areas at the time or have any information to provide to contact the Hopewell Criminal Investigation Unit (CIU) at (804) 541-2284. .
