RICHMOND, Va. -- Police cleared protesters from the area around the Robert E. Lee Monument without incident overnight.
Richmond Police declared an "unlawful assembly" at about 2:39 a.m. Wednesday. By 2:46 a.m., the department tweeted that the area was cleared.

The grounds around the Lee Monument officially closed at sunset, however, protesters were allowed to stay hours later.

The previous night, a dozen people were arrested for Unlawful Assembly in front of Richmond City Hall.
