SOUTH HILL, Va. -- An investigation is underway to determine what sparked a fire that destroyed Brian's Steak House in South Hill, Virginia.

Fire crews from across Southside Virginia were called to E. Atlantic Street early Tuesday morning to battle the restaurant fire. No injuries were reported.

"A call we never ever wanted to get dispatched to," the South Hill Volunteer Fire Department posted on its Facebook page. "Our thoughts and prayers are with all Brian's Steak House employees, the Wells family, and everyone else involved in the endeavors of their history in this little town. Our hearts are definitely heavy as we mourn the loss of this great establishment, we would like to thank all of the departments and agencies who assisted with this 10-hour long fire."

Brian's Steak House has been part of the South Hill community since 1974.

It was open and serving to-go and curbside orders during the COVID-19 pandemic.

This is a developing story.
