HANOVER COUNTY, Va. -- Fourteen units at the Brandy Hill Apartments, off Lee Davis Road in Mechanicsville, were damaged in a Friday morning fire.

“Thankfully, fire and smoke alarms alerted many to the danger,” a Hanover Fire and EMS spokesperson said. “Crews first on the scene were able to assist others out of the building safely.”

The Red Cross is helping to find temporary housing for those who lost their homes.

The Hanover County Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the fire. This is a developing story.
