RICHMOND, Va. -- Crime Insider sources tell CBS 6 that two people, one man and one woman, are dead following a shooting in Richmond Thursday evening.
A 17-year-old teenager, also injured in the shooting, was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
The shooting happened on the 1600 block of Spotsylvania Street just before 7 p.m.
Richmond Police Chief Rick Edwards was at the scene of the shooting.
"Let us do our jobs. Do not retaliate, let the Richmond Police Department get justice for your families," he said. "There are children without parents tonight."
Community advocate Charles Willis was also at the scene.
"There are four young people that saw this happen. This reckless and senseless violence happened in front of their face," he said.
Police say those four kids are receiving help from a trauma response team following the shooting.
The teenager in this shooting is now the fifth teenager to be shot in the Central Virginia area within five days.
