HANOVER COUNTY, Va. -- A man was killed in a crash as he left a restaurant parking lot Sunday night in Hanover, according to deputies. Investigators identified the deceased as 46-year-old Demond L. Pleasant of Henrico County.

"Feel awful for the families," said Teagan Lunn.

The 17-year-old had just left work about 30 minutes before the crash.

Monday Morning, painted police markings, glass and car parts could be found near the Arby's and Cookout restaurants along the 7100 block of Mechanicsville Turnpike, remnants from the crash.

"I just think it's really shocking and very sad," said Lunn.

"A 2019 Honda SUV, operated by a 71-year-old female with two juvenile occupants, was traveling west on Mechanicsville Turnpike. The Honda ran off right the side of the highway and struck a culvert," Hanover Sheriff's Office spokesperson Steve DiLoreto wrote in an email. "The Honda went airborne and struck a 2004 Range Rover operated by a 46-year-old male with one juvenile occupant. The Range Rover was stationary at the exit of a restaurant parking lot."

Both vehicles were overturned when deputies arrived.

Pleasant was pronounced dead at the scene.

"I was sitting in my garage, just playing guitar and I heard like a bunch of sirens and like I live on 360, so I usually hear them, almost every night, but it was just like, siren after siren after siren and I was like, something had to have happened," she recalled.

Both his passenger and the woman and children in the Honda were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Hanover County Sheriff's Office says the crash is still under investigation and charges are pending.

Investigators ask if you saw anything or have information about the accident to call Crime Stoppers at 804-780-1000.
