RICHMOND, Va. -- The Steward School, a private school located in Henrico's West End, has temporarily closed due to COVID-19.

"As the nation and Virginia both experience a surge in the number of reported COVID-19 cases, The Steward School is experiencing its first temporary closure to address three reported cases within its community," a school spokesperson wrote in an email. "All three individuals who tested positive are isolated and in good condition."

The school, which reopened its campus to students in late August, will stay closed on Wednesday, November 11.

A decision on when to reopen has not yet been announced.

"We are preparing to re-open campus learning as soon as possible," the email continued.

About 650 students, grades K-12, from across Central Virginia attend the private school.

Nearly 1,600 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in Virginia over the last 24 hours.

Earlier this week, the Henrico Citizen reported the county's daily average of new COVID cases hit an all-time high – 54.
