ETTRICK, Va. -- Billionaire Philanthropist MacKenzie Scott made a $30 million gift to Virginia State University.

It's an act the historically Black university called its "largest single donor gift" in the HBCU's 138-year history.

“Ms. Scott’s legacy and generosity will touch the lives of Virginia State University students for years to come,” VSU President Dr. Makola M. Abdullah said. “Thanks to her investment in VSU, a generation of students who are living through the challenges of a pandemic, a social justice movement, and reduced scholarship funding will have additional resources as they continue to pursue their dreams of a world class education at Virginia State University."

Scott, an author who was married to Amazon found Jeff Bezos, previously made record-setting donations to four other HBCUs.

She has donated more than $1.6 billion to 100+ non-profit organizations in 2020.
