PRINCE GEORGE COUNTY, Va. -- Afterdays of severe flooding, a Prince George County couple can finally see the grass in their backyard.

A beaver dam built at a drainage culvert about a half-mile away caused days of rain to back up into the Jacob's family's yard.

"What it means to me right now is 80 years of my life, I can see it washing away. Everything we've worked hard for is going to be destroyed," Jean Jacobs said.

Several feet of water collected in the backyard eventually making its way into the basement of the elderly couple's basement.

VDOT broke apart the beaver dam on Wednesday, allowing the water to drain over the course of about 6 hours.

Now the couple's goal is to get a cleaning crew to salvage what they can from the basement and dry it out before mold can take over.
