Man dead, woman injured after Richmond shooting, police say

RICHMOND, Va. — A man is dead and a woman is injured after a shooting in Richmond on Monday evening, according to police.

The shooting happened at the corner of Azalea Avenue and Chamberlayne Road around 6:30 p.m.

Both victims were taken to an area hospital where the man died from his injuries. The woman has non-life-threatening injuries.

The man killed has not been identified at this time.

At the scene, CBS 6 met Kevin Starlings, who jumped into action to help the victims. He was driving in the area at the time.

"You could see where a male was walking and then collapsed in the parking lot. That's when I went over to try to render aid. He had multiple gunshot wounds. I tried to apply pressure, started chest compressions, on the phone with 911 at the same time," Starlings said.
