AMELIA COUNTY, Va. -- An Amelia County family had the reunion of a life-time when a military mother surprised her children after returning home from deployment.
Master Sergeant Shannon Brown, who serves in the U.S. Air Force, just finished a year-long deployment in South Korea.
While her family was having dinner at Texas Roadhouse in Chesterfield, she surprised her children, Abby and DJ, who had no idea she'd be joining them.
"After being gone for a year I am very thankful and happy to be back home. I'm thrilled to have my family back together, and excited to step back into the mom role to begin making up for lost time," Msgt. Brown said.
Her husband, who also serves in the Air Force, recently returned home and surprised their children at school after being deployed for a year in South Korea.
"Being away for holidays and birthdays are always tough, but it's also the little things that weigh on me as a military mom being away. I've really missed the small things too, like waking them up for school, packing their lunches, hearing my daughter sing from the back seat, watching my son practice soccer, and most of all giving good night kisses," she added.
"My heart is definitely whole again!"
