PETERSBURG, Va. -- A 15-year-old high school student was killed and a second teenager was left in critical condition following a weekend shooting in Petersburg.

Police identified the slain teenager as 15-year-old Tyjuan Crenshaw II.

"Keep the prayers coming, this is the hardest thing, I’ve ever had to do in my life," mother Tiffany Crenshaw said. "The only thing going through my mind right now is, trying to process the fact that my son is gone, he’s not coming back."

Police were called to the Lieutenants Run Apartment complex Saturday at about 8:34 p.m. to investigate a shooting.

When officers arrived they found Crenshaw in the breezeway of an apartment building on Crestfall Court.

"During the course of the investigation, a second juvenile arrived at the hospital with the head trauma," a Petersburg Police spokesperson said.

Police have not yet released information about what may have happened before the shooting, nor any information about a possible shooting suspect.

“We were under the impression that our son was at my stepbrother's house and every time we call and we check, everything pans out, that’s where he’s at but this one particular night, I guess something else happened," father Tyjuan Crenshaw Sr. said.

Tyjuan's parents said they called their son The Maestro because he set the tempo for the rest of the family.

"He was multifaceted, he could do anything," his father said.

Anyone with information was asked to call Petersburg/Dinwiddie Crime Solvers at 804-861-1212.
