RICHMOND, Va. -- A three-year-old boy is recovering from a gunshot wound he suffered after he shot himself in a South Richmond apartment, Crime Insider sources told Jon Burkett.

The child picked up the unattended gun left inside the home at about 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 22.

Police are investigating and have confirmed a juvenile male was injured inside the Petoskey Avenue apartment.

An adult accompanied the child to the hospital.

Charges are pending the outcome of the police investigation.
