RICHMOND, Va. – One day after Governor Ralph Northam issued a stay-at-home order for Virginians, Sports Backers and Venture Richmond announce that the 2020 Dominion Energy Riverrock festival is canceled.

Richmond’s annual outdoor sports and music festival will scheduled to return to Brown’s Island and Historic Tredegar for May 15-17.

“We are bummed that our community of athletes, musicians, adventurers, festival-goers, and volunteers won't be gathering this year to celebrate and combine all of the things that make Richmond such a vibrant place to live, visit, and play. But, we are hopeful that this means our festival will rock even more in 2021,” organizers wrote on Facebook.

The free festival, organized by Sports Backers and Venture Richmond Events LLC, brings athletes, spectators, musicians, and even dogs to Richmond.

The event features a variety of outdoor sports including trail running, kayaking, biking, bouldering, slacklining, stand up paddleboarding, and dog jumping.

If you are a registered participant in the 2020 event, they are several options for you:

  • You may defer your 2020 Dominion Energy Riverrock entry to the 2021 event (to be held May 21-23, 2021). All deferral fees will be waived and the deadline to defer is May 15, 2020.
  • You may credit your Dominion Energy Riverrock entry fee to another Sports Backers event that takes place through May 23, 2021.
  • You may donate your event registration fee and help maintain and enhance the James River Park System trails and riverfront.
  • You may receive a refund of your event entry fee and any registration add-ons that you have purchased.
