14-year-old boy killed in Emporia; investigation 'fluid and on-going'

EMPORIA, Va. -- An investigation is underway after a teenager was shot and killed early Saturday morning in Emporia.

Emporia Police were called to the 200 block of Briggs Street around 2:50 a.m. for a report of a shooting.

When officers arrived, they found a 14-year-old boy in the backyard of a home suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

The teenager was pronounced dead on the scene, according to police.

"Detectives from the Emporia Police Detectives are processing the crime scene and conducting the follow-up investigation of this homicide," officials with the police department said. "This investigation is still fluid and on-going."

No suspect information nor additional details were available at last check.
