RICHMOND, Va. -- A Richmond jazz vocalist lifted spirits while performing from her porch all while practicing social distancing Saturday.
Marjorie Jones is the lead vocalist with A Cup Of Jazz, a Richmond jazz and neo-soul band that regularly performs at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts' (VMFA) Dominion Jazz Cafe.
Jones hosted a drive-thru concert from the front porch of her West End home.
Ian Stowe, Jones' neighbor, said he was pleasantly surprised by the turnout.
"We're used to it. But when she said she had a concert, we thought it would be five or ten people -- just her friends coming by," Stowe said. "It's pretty cool."
Jones said she wanted to bring a little bit of healing during these hard times.
"Music does heal and that's what we're doing today," Jones said. "I see a lot of smiling faces. I'm sure folks hadn't been out of their house, so this was just a great way to get people together. "
