RICHMOND, Va. -- Governor Ralph Northam seems to be pleased with Virginia's COVID-19 numbers.
"Today, Virginia is reporting our lowest COVID-19 positivity rate yet –– 6.5%.," Northam shared on social media. " In the past 24 hours, 445 new cases and 9 deathswere reported to the Virginia Department of Health, significantly lower than the daily peaks in late May. Hospitalizations continue to drop and we conducted 12,421 additional tests."
The governor chose not to move Virginia into Phase Three reopening last week, despite positive trends. He said he made that decision partly after looking at the COVID-19 trends of other states which reopened faster than Virginia.
The earliest Virginia could enter Phase Three reopening, which would allow for larger social gatherings, is Friday.
