RICHMOND, Va. -- After Friday evening, you will no longer be able to sign up for a coronavirus vaccine through your local health district.

The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) is launching a statewide registration system next week, and has directed all local health districts to close their forms by Friday at 5 p.m. to prepare.

VDH will launch the new system on Tuesday, Feb. 16. Until then, pre-registration for a COVID-19 vaccine won't be available.

They will be importing the existing waiting lists into the new system, so anyone who has already signed up with their local health district will be automatically added into the new system.

VDH said individuals will maintain their current status in the queue on the waiting lists.

The department also said they will be cleaning up and consolidating the data that comes in through the local health districts' systems, as well as removing all individuals who have already been vaccinated.

The goal of the statewide pre-registration system is to create a more unified process for citizens, according to VDH.
