RICHMOND, Va. -- The Richmond Henrico Health District held a free drive-thru coronavirus testing event at The Diamond Tuesday.

The event came several days after the Christmas holiday. Anyone could walk, bike, or drive through the testing site at the Diamond’s Green Lot from noon to 2 p.m.

The Richmond-Henrico Health District said they had a capacity of 400 tests to administer.

“Coming off the holidays, Christmas, we wanted to offer an event that would allow people who may be concerned about an exposure while traveling or visiting with relatives a chance to get tested,” said Community Testing Project Manager, Lanier Olsson. “And this is the amount of time after a possible exposure that you may start to see symptoms and that a test will really be valid.”

Health officials said they’ve seen a spike in COVID cases after every holiday during the pandemic — and they expected this one to be no different. They encouraged anyone who was exposed or experiencing symptoms to get tested.

Olsson said patients would receive their test results in two to five days.

The Richmond Henrico Health District’s next testing event was scheduled for Tuesday at the East Henrico Health Department from 1 to 3 p.m.
