RICHMOND, Va. -- The Richmond and Henrico Health Districts held several pop-up vaccination clinics this weekend in hopes of inoculating more members of minority communities, who health officials said may have a difficult time getting the vaccine.

Officials with the Virginia Department of Health are also reaching out to senior citizens, as well as Black and Latino communities in Richmond’s East End, Southside and North Side.

One of the clinics was hosted Saturday at First African Baptist Church in Richmond.

“People are excited to be able to have the privilege to get the vaccine,” Rodney Waller, the church's pastor, said. “Many of them have been on waiting lists for a long time.”

Gloria Sibley, who received her first COVID-19 shot Saturday, encouraged others to get the shot when it is their turn.

“Don't be fretful about doing it, just do it,” Sibley said. “Just come and get it.”

These events were possible because of a limited supply of extra vaccine doses provided by the Virginia Department of Health earlier this week.
