CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. -- A total of 16 people have died due to COVID-19 at Tyler's Retreat at Iron Bridge, according to the Virginia Department of Health (VDH).
Chesterfield Health Director Dr. Alexander Samuel said 69 residents and 36 staff members have tested positive for the virus.
The 16 deaths are a drastic increase compared to four deaths reported two weeks ago on October 14.
Specific details about the 16 reported COIVD-19 related deaths have not released.
The VDH was notified about the first positive test on September 29, according to a department spokesperson.
Tyler's Retreat at Iron Bridge sent CBS 6 a statement that read:
“The facility acts in the best interest of its residents to promote their health, safety, and welfare. We continue to work closely with the Department of Health and follow all local, state and federal reporting guidelines and regulations. We have routinely updated all residents and responsible parties regarding their condition and care. Due to HIPAA regulations, we cannot comment on any personal health information.”
The retirement community located at 12001 Ironbridge Road in Chesterfield County.
Tyler’s Retreat at Iron Bridge is owned by Ohio-based Saber Healthcare Company with facilities in seven states.
