COLONIAL HEIGHTS, Va. -- It was vaccination day at Dunlop House Assisted Living & Memory Care in Colonial Heights.
Pharmacists from Walgreens administered the Pfizer-made COVID-19 vaccine to the center's residents and staff.
"To finally be able to start giving the vaccination out, to not just my residents but my staff as well, it's fantastic," the center's executive director Steve DeJesus said.
More than 100 people were vaccinated at Dunlop House on Monday.
"It wasn't bad, you'd barely even felt it," staff member Jaime Pierce said.
"Wasn't nothing to it, it was just a shot," 95-year-old resident Ben Fitchett said. "I'm glad I'm getting it."
Walgreens pharmacist Mary Moore said most patients she has encountered were grateful for the vaccine.
"I think the most rewarding part of us," Moore said. "Really seeing the excitement from everybody finally getting their shots, because it's that instant relief."
Another clinic will be held in a few weeks and the second doses will be administered.

COVID-19 cases down as the US ends the deadliest month
The deadliest month of the coronavirus outbreak in the U.S. has drawn to a close with certain signs of progress.
COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations are plummeting, while vaccinations are picking up speed.
The question is whether the nation can stay ahead of the fast-spreading mutations of the virus.
The U.S. death toll has climbed past 440,000, with more than 95,000 lives lost in January alone.
Deaths are running at about 3,150 per day on average, down by about 200 from their peak in mid-January.
