RICHMOND, Va. -- As Richmond Public Schools continue to #ReopenWithLove virtually, their Welcome Center continues to help families enroll online and in person.

"Our goal definitely is empowering families to feel connected to their school community," said Amelia Castaneda, RPS Welcome Center Coordinator. Castaneda tells CBS 6, since August 11, they have been able to help more than 170 families with enrollment support and other needs.

The Welcome Center also supports English Learning Students (ESL) with placement testing, like WIDA Testing and translation services.

"The Welcome Center offers a range of services designed to support newcomers to the district and non-English speaking families by informing, assisting, and connecting them with school and community resources," said Castaneda.

"And we're still able to do this in a safe manner both for families but also our staff while being able to provide the support to our families in person," she added.
