RICHMOND, Va. -- Organizers of a 'Prep for Success' Back to School Drive planned to hand out 500 bags filled with free school supplies Saturday. Radio One Richmond is hosting the drive-thru event.

Miss Community Clovia said the drive would be 100% contactless, so drivers won't have to get out of their cars. She said everyone is welcome.

"If you have children, or if you’re a community service leader or a grandma or grandpa -- anyone can come to pick up the school supplies if they’re going to be giving it to the students," she said. "So whoever can come and be in the drive-in line and drive off with the school supplies."

Miss Community Clovia said they would hand out up to two bags per car while supplies lasted.

The event, she said, was more than a supply giveaway.

"If you need any services, representatives from Anthem and of course Radio One, we’re going to walk up to your car about enrolling in Medicaid expansion, we’re going to have that information for you as well," she said. "And I’m going to walk up to you with your bags as well and say, 'Hey have you filled out your census, are you counted?' And we’ll have all that information as well. So we want to make it a purposeful Prep for Success this year even though it's going to be contactless."

The event was scheduled to last from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in the Anthem Parking Lot at 2015 Staples Mill Road.
