PETERSBURG, Va. -- A Petersburg City Public Schools employee has tested positive for COVID-19, the school system announced Monday.

School officials say the staff member was only at Petersburg High School and the Central Office on the day of contact, October 6.

"We are working with the Petersburg Health Department and Crater Health District to inform the necessary individuals and to continue our mitigation efforts," school officials wrote in a Facebook post.

Those officials say the appropriate staff members will be notified Monday.

Currently, Petersburg City Schools is operating under the Petersburg Virtual Academy and no students are in class for in-person instruction.
