HENRICO COUNTY, Va. -- More than 50,000 Henrico County Public School students are about a month away from the start of the 2020 school year. A school year that will begin with learning from home for at least the first nine weeks due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This week, Henrico will begin handing out laptop computers to students who don't already have their learn-from-home devices.
Students from kindergarten through sixth grade will either receive either a tablet, a Chromebook, or Dell laptop. Older students are keeping their devices from last school year.
Rising sixth-grade students will exchange the Chromebook they used in fifth grade, for a new laptop. Newly enrolled middle school students will also pick up a new laptop this week.
Each of the county's middle schools sent parents specific intrusions on when and where their child could pick up their learn-from-home device(s).
Henrico Schools also plans to hand out WiFi hot spots to students in need of internet access.
