DINWIDDIE COUNTY, Va. -- People around Virginia come to the Richmond region for its history, entertainment, and recreational opportunities. But did you know Central Virginia is also home to Virginia's best doughnut?
Food and Wine recently named the Dinwiddie County-based Mrs. Yoder's Kitchen the state's top doughnut.
"A few years back, a Mennonite family that recently moved to Central Virginia began turning up at a local farmers' market with their sourdough glazed doughnuts—hand-formed, scraggly things, beautiful in their way, hanging on dowels like ornaments, looking every bit like a snack, breakfast, lunch, whatever," the national food magazine wrote on its website. "By now, the truck-based Mrs. Yoder's Kitchen is something of a Richmond-area institution, selling nearly year-round at multiple locations around town."
You are going to have to be patient before showing off Virginia's best doughnut to your out-of-town friends.
Mrs. Yoder's is closed for the season with plans to resume in March.
