Cornell Core, the James River High School girls track coach who led the Rapids to their second straight state championship, was named 2026 Coach of the Year at the RVA Sports Awards.
Core exemplifies all the positive aspects of sport and has made a positive impact on the Richmond community in 2025. He graciously shouted out his fellow nominees while accepting the award.
"I would like to say congratulations to the other nominees who actually know very personally, and they're phenomenal coaches as well," Core said. "And then, I'd be nothing without my family, my amazing wife, my kids who are at home looking at daddy, we did it! Chandler, Camille, Cason, Daddy loves you. And last but not least, everyone that voted. James River Track and Field family, we appreciate you, and I love you. Thank you very much!"
