'Light the Night' goes virtual to honor people battling blood cancer

RICHMOND, Va. -- An event supporting patients with blood cancer is going virtual with many of the same activities supporters have come to expect.

Organizers have created an interactive platform to replicate the "Light the Night" experience.

"For example, our remembrance pavilion where you can light a teal light in memory of someone who lost their battle we now have that virtually you can go in you can go in upload a photo and place their teal light in blood drop in their memory that way," Katie Bolton, with the Leukemia Lymphoma Society, said.

Anyone wanting to join the virtual Light the Night event can purchase one of three special lanterns to show their support.

  • White lantern - for survivors
  • Gold lantern - in memory of
  • Red lantern – in support of or in honor of
