RICHMOND, Va. -- The Dominion Energy Jazz Café at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts has gone virtual.

Robert Phanord II, the museum's performing arts coordinator, said the virtual café series subtitled "Life, Love, and Song" was born out of the pandemic and social unrest.

As he watched news coverage he wanted to have a space where fans of music could hear great music, but also hear some of the history behind some of the music and its artists and performers.

Phanord says this is what Jazz Music is going to look like from the VMFA until he can bring back in-person events.

The next next performance in the series will be Thursday, Sept. 3 starting at 6:30 p.m. It will feature Desiree Roots with the music of Nina Simone and how Simone’s music influenced her musical journey.

Visitors can also see previous recorded series on the VMFA's YouTube channel.
