MIDLOTHIAN, Va. -- Brightening the community's Christmas season is part of CBS 6's Month of Giving mission.

Members of The Heights Baptist Church have been collecting items for their Silver Stockings program to benefit nursing home residents across Central Virginia.

The organization Vessels of Mercy posted about their need to fill 100 bags for seniors.

When CBS 6 sportscaster Sean Robertson heard about their need, he dropped by with a gift with the help of Virginia Credit Union.

"We do a CBS 6 Month of Giving segment. Every December we go around the community, we want to give back to those who have done great things in our area," Robertson explained. "Hopefully, they will pass it along and pass it forward. So on behalf of CBS 6, I have a gift card for $200 that will go towards the project. So hopefully there will be some more bags filled with great items for the seniors that will use them during the during the holiday season."

Volunteers were grateful for the donation.

"And even if it's not seniors, it's going to be for children," a volunteer said.

"So hopefully that will that will be a great way to to continue the blessing during the holiday season," Robertson said.
