RICHMOND, Va. -- The coronavirus pandemic has put many local businesses in a difficult spot, but three community leaders have stepped up to make sure those same businesses are able to keep their doors open.

The creators of the Black Restaurant Experience, Shemicia Bowen, Amy Wentz, and Kelli Lemon have raised nearly $50,000 through an emergency relief fund to support Black-owned restaurants in the city during the pandemic.

As a way of saying thank you, CBS 6 reporter Gabrielle Harmon surprised them in the latest edition of CBS 6 Gives.

"You guys came together and you said, you know, we're going to try and make sure that our restaurants, people in our community are going to be set straight... So thank you, for you guys spreading that forward," said Harmon.

"I know Kelli couldn't be here but I wanted to make sure... I wanted to give you guys some gift cards for you to be able to spend it on however you like, whatever you need."
