RICHMOND, Va. -- Diamanda, a nine-year-old cat, has been at Richmond Animal League (RAL) for more than 500 days. That makes Diamanda the animal that has lived at RAL longer than any other animal.
"She can be a little shy at first. But once you let her acclimate to a new home, and the new environment, she slowly makes her way out and she will warm your heart so much," RAL Development Coordinator Lauren Decker said.
Diamanda is a kidney cat, which means her kidneys are not functioning as they should function.
"It's actually very common as cats get older. So it is something that a lot of adult cats will deal with later on in life," Decker added.
In an effort to get Diamanda adopted and into a loving home, Mike Stone surprised RAL by offering to cover the cost of her adoption and six months' worth of medications expenses as part of the CBS 6 Gives program.
UPDATE: A $1,000 donation from a CBS 6 viewer will now cover over three years of medication for Diamanda.
"This is really incredible for you guys to be able to showcase her and all those pets who are available for adoption out there but definitely to help her no longer have that distinction of being the oldest cat at Richmond Animal League." RAL Executive Director Elizabeth Thomas said.
