US Marshals nab Hopewell murder suspect

HOPEWELL, Va. -- The suspect wanted for fatally shooting a man in Hopewell Friday afternoon was apprehended by U.S. Marshals Saturday, according to Hopewell Police.

Officers were called to the 2200 block of Atlantic Street Friday just before 4:30 p.m. for a shooting.

When police and EMS crews arrived, they found 35-year-old Earl Thomas Osborne suffering from a gunshot wounded.

Osborne was transported to John Randolph Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

"Members of the Hopewell Police Department Criminal Investigation and Street Crimes Units subsequently initiated a homicide investigation," Capt. Donald Reid with Hopewell Police said.

Police said warrants were issued for 21-year-old Deante Henry of Hopewell.

Members of the U.S. Marshal's Fugitive Task Force arrested Henry in Hopewell on Saturday.

Henry was charged with first-degree murder, the use of firearm in the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a felon and shooting in a public place.

Henry is being held at the Riverside Regional Jail pending arraignment.

Police are urging anyone who was in the area or witnessed activity in the area of the CN & Y Corner Store at 2223 Atlantic Street at the time of the shooting to call Lead Detective Keith Krueger of the Hopewell Criminal Investigations Unit at 804-541-2284.
